These are folders on the CD-ROM

  1. The Database demo – this is a shell of the Access Database used in the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center. You must own a copy of Microsoft Access 97 or 2000 to run or modify this database. It is designed to allow sickle cell clinics a start at programming their own database to help track clinical information. There is NO support for this, it is given as is with NO promises that it will work. You must have a working knowledge of Microsoft access to modify the database.
  2. The Sickle Website – The SickleWeb directory contains a copy of the latest version of the entire sickle cell website including the latest in clinical guidelines in the Problem Oriented Clinical Guidelines for Sickle Syndromes. You must be on the Internet to view web links to other web sites. You must have a web browser such as Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer to view these pages

3. Sickle Power Point – This section contains several power point slide shows to use for teaching patients, and professionals. You may modify these slides if you own Microsoft Power point 97 or 2000. A free power point player is included on the CD in the PowerPoint directory.

4. Video

There is an AVI or MPG movie included, just click use my computer or explorer to open the Video folder and click on one these titles .They should play if you have a movie player installed on your computer. The video describes the patient education and pain assessment programs at the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center in Atlanta.

5. Tutorial

This is the narrated and animated sickle cell tutorial for patients, lay audience and medical staff. The instructions and main menu are contained in the presentation called Arunfirst.ppt

There are 4 presentations to view:

  1. Normal blood – the physiology of blood, red cells and hemoglobin
  2. Sickle Cell – The physiology of sickle hemoglobin, distribution, genetics, sickle trait, complications
  3. Health Living – how to promote health and prevent sickle complications
  4. Research – the latest in new developments
  5. There is a whole presentation for public speaking titled SickleTalk.ppt this is ideal for computer presentations or printing slides. You have our permission to use this or print it.

  6. Coloring books

There are two coloring books that can be printed and distributed and you have our permission to do so:

These are two slide shows presented during our 2000 Sickle cell pain management Symposium. These are captured on our video of this symposium
