ACUTE PAIN MANAGEMENT Ongoing Therapy
After 24 hours, add sustained release morphine 30 mg PO q 12 hours and reduce the q 3 hour IV dose by 2 mg.
After 48 hours of adequate pain control, make the IV dose PRN for breakthrough pain.
Every 24 hours, increase the sustained release morphine dose by 30 mg increments if regular PRN doses are requested.
